Say I'MN to Trying New Things at the Fair

August 30, 2017 | Comment

There’s always plenty to see and do and eat at the Minnesota State Fair. And this year, there’ll be more great stuff to say I’MN to than ever. So read on to see some of our favorite new additions to the Great Minnesota Get-Together.

Great Big Wheel

making it the tallest Ferris wheel in North America. Also, it has 36 enclosed gondolas and is covered over a half million LED lights. It will be located at Randall Avenue and Cooper Street. (And it should be easy to find.)

The Veranda

The Veranda is a shopping and eating destination on the west side of the Grandstand's upper level. There’s too much new here to list. Rest assured, with nearly 20 vendors and the new Hideaway Speakeasy, this is one addition you won’t want to miss.

NHL® Centennial Fan Arena

From September 1-4, this attraction will celebrate 100 years of NHL hockey with videos and memorabilia. And maybe most exciting, there will be a virtual reality Zamboni® experience. Free with fair admission.

Bowl O’ Dough

This sweet treat is just one of many new menu items available this year. And it’s exactly what it sounds like. That’s a good thing because it sounds amazing. These scoops of raw cookie dough come in four flavors: Brownie Batter Swirl, gluten-free Chocolate Chip Cookie, European Cookie Butter made with Biscoff spiced cookies and Lemon Ricotta Cheesecake with Blueberries in a sugar cookie dough. Find it at Blue Moon Dine-In Theater (Carnes Av. and Chambers St.).

Bacon Fluffernutter

It’s a grilled cinnamon bun sandwich with a bacon, peanut butter and marshmallow cream filling. You can find it at The Sandwich Stop on Clough St. between Carnes & Judson avenues.

Cherry Bombs

No, they aren’t firecrackers. They’re red licorice dipped in batter, deep-fried and dusted with powdered sugar. And they’re At Vegie Fries, on Dan Patch Ave. between Underwood & Cooper.

Special Exhibits

One of the coolest things about the Minnesota State Fair is, no matter when you go, there’s always something to see. Here’s a short list of some of the nearly 20 traveling exhibits making an appearance this year.
