Celebrating Earth Day 2018

April 13, 2018 | Comment

Every year on April 22 people from all over the world celebrate Earth Day. Established in 1970, Earth Day was created to generate awareness about important environmental issues.

Earth Day is a moment to celebrate our most precious natural resources, but it’s also an opportunity to create change.

For us at the Minnesota Lottery, every day is Earth Day. Why? For every dollar played, approximately 11 cents go towards funds that directly benefit Minnesota’s environment, including the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, the Game and Fish Fund and the Natural Resources Fund.

We’re proud that lottery dollars are working hard to protect, enhance and restore Minnesota’s environment. Land acquisition, improving water and air quality, renewable energy, ground-breaking research programs and environmental education are just some of the ways lottery dollars are helping to make a difference in communities across Minnesota. These innovative projects are committed to protecting our environment for future generations.

“End Plastic Pollution” is the theme for Earth Day 2018. The Minnesota Lottery is a sponsor of the largest clean up event in the Twin Cities. The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board Earth Day Cleanup is held at 35+ park sites across Minneapolis. More than 7,700 pounds of trash was cleaned up at last year’s event thanks to 1,809 volunteers.

Together, let’s continue to make Minnesota an even better place to live.
